She was born in Listie, PA, February 7, 1922, a daughter of Ukranian parents, the late Martin and Ticolas (Annie) Pohlit (Hollack). We thank God for all the years he blessed us with her.
Born into humble beginnings into a large family in a very small town Julia started working at a very young age in Listie to help support the family. Communication at home was very challenging as her parents spoke very little English but the family had tremendous faith in their religion and her parents made sure all nine children received their education. Upon graduation, Julia moved to New York City with her beloved sister Helen working there for several years and loved to talk about meeting the actor Danny Kaye. Later in life, Julia and her husband George moved to Erie where they owned and operated Ace Beer Company for 55 years along with her Brother-In-Law John Kramer before her retirement. She had a tremendous work ethic and was a successful business woman who loved and enjoyed life and was loved by all who met her. When life dealt certain health challenges to her, Julia, driven by her faith and family support faced them head on without fear. Julia was especially grateful for JoAnne Coursin’s never ending love and support to help her to Church every Sunday for many years. Julia was a 61 year member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and served as president of its Ladies Altar Society for seven years. Julia was also very instrumental in the renovation of the kitchen at the Church. In addition to her husband George, who died in 2005, Julia was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet and Diane Kramer, a brother in law, John Kramer, three brothers, Michael, George and Charles Pohlit and three sisters, Mary Pohlit, Helen Roman and Ann Paxton. Survivors include her son, George Kramer and his fiancée JoAnne Coursin of Erie: her four daughters; Shirley Williams, husband Atty. Dennis of Erie, Mary Ann Kramer of California, Jean Kramer of Erie, Georgiana Russell, husband Dr. Benjamin of Texas; four grandchildren, Atty. Leah Williams, Shaun Williams, Jennifer Wells and Tonya Moss. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren and two brothers, Nicholas Pohlit, wife Jean and Steven Pohlit, wife Helen. Friends may call at the A. Brugger & Sons Funeral Home, LLP, 845 East 38th St. Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Prayer service will be held there on Friday at 8:30 a.m. followed by Requiem funeral service at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church at 9:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Ronald A. Hazuda presiding. Panachida services will be Thursday evening at 8:oo p.m. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery. |
