Joseph J. Mihalic, age 85 years, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home.

He was born in Erie, January 20, 1925, a son of the late Frank and Anna Haschalk Mihalic.

Joseph was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the receiving department at Bucyrus Erie for 35 years. He was a member of St. Luke Church, a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club, American Legion Carl Neff Post and the Knights of Columbus # 278. He also enjoyed leatherworking, making purses and wallets, woodworking, fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Fr. Francis Mihalic S.V.D., Anthony and Thomas Mihalic and two sisters, Katherine "Kate" McCandless and Barb Gusky.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Krivonak Mihalic, whom he married June 10, 1950; four sisters, Veronica Cywinski of Erie, Martha Szolomayer of Cherry Valley, CA, Theresa Hoydic, husband Frank of Orange, CA and Elizabeth Manning, husband Tom of Erie; many nieces and nephews and godchildren, Karen Dolak and Velma Jean Marcinko.


Friends may call at the A. Brugger & Sons Funeral Home, LLP, 845 East 38 St., Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend services there on Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St, Suite 244, Erie or to a Charity of ones choice.
