David James “Sarge” Shallop, age 72, of McKean, PA, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the VA Medical Center.

He was born on December 4, 1937 in Erie, PA, son of the late Hart and Doris Woodworth Shallop. David was a twenty year retiree, serving his first four years with the United States Navy and the remainder with United States Air Force. He was a Viet Nam Veteran, retiring with the rank of Technical Sergeant as a C-130 mechanic. David also worked as a mechanic and sales representative for Lake Peterbilt Co. of Erie. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Billy Simpson Post 470.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Hart Shallop; two sisters, Doris Maille of Harborcreek, PA and Helen Cratsley of Brookfield, OH; a daughter Mary Anne Woodel Shallop and a son David Jay Shallop. Survivors include two brothers Richard Shallop of Oak Ridge, NJ and Bob Shallop of Holidaysburg, PA; two daughters Jody Donovan and her husband Timothy, and Nicolle Shallop, both of Erie; six grandchildren, Charlotte, David, Ashley, Kaitlynn, Tyler and Jaclynn; three great grandchildren, Amethyst, Kyrielle and Bella. According to his wishes, David donated his body to the Pennsylvania Humanity Gifts Registry. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th Street, Erie, PA on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 3:00 PM. |
